Wisdom Teeth Extraction?
I already hate going to the dentist as it is, and the prospect of having all four wisdom teeth removed is freaking me out. I can hardly stand needles (I mean come on, the closer they get to your face they start to look more and more like a 747 jet) and I've never had to have a tooth pulled or extracted.
Stitches scare me, and even though the doctor will be giving me "happy pills" and such to take the night before, and will be numbing me up and gassing me for the process so that I won't remember it, I'm still anxious.
What should I expect, and how can I become more comfortable with this? Also, how much pain am I going to have to deal with since my cousins have been telling me their wisdom tooth horror stories.
I just had my wisdom teeth removed last Thursday. My surgeon gave me nitrous oxide and iv sedation. I don't remember anything that happened after the gas was turned on and they did my iv after the gas was turned on. My surgeon did not put in stitches for the extraction sites. They said that they create a little flap that will fold over. What you should expect is that you will be nervous when you get there and go back to the room, they will gas you and then you will remember waking up. You will be sore and swollen over the next few days, but it will go by fast. Just remember to take your pain meds and you will be fine. I went back to work today, but still have a little discomfort. Nothing major, just a little sore when I talk too much. Everybody's pain is different. Just don't listen to the horror stories and DON'T look up information on it on random websites. I did that and scared myself to death. Also, I had people at my kid's daycare telling me their horror stories the morning I was on my way to have my wisdom teeth extracted. Just try not to listen or politely ask them not to share until after your surgery. Hope everything turns out well for you. As long as you follow the instructions from your surgeon, you should be fine!!
