Winter Ski Boot

First time skiing…help with everything.?

My friend has agreed to take me skiing this winter…(yeah for Utah!) I would like to be prepared and be able to have a fun day out together, and not just a babysitting job for her. I have looked in to renting skis and boots and poles…but what kind do I get, will they help me adjust binding, what should I wear? Any advice would be great. Thank you!

Do an answers search for what to wear skiing, or ski clothes. That will get you started on what you need to buy. Rent the boots, they must fit tight around your foot and ankle. Rent skis and take a set of lessons from the ski school. The advantage to renting a package and lessons at the area is you can change the gear to adjust as you learn. The most common error is boots that are too big, 2nd is dressed too warm, 3rd is probably dehydration. Get to the rental shop early and be certain to ask for help on anything you do not understand. One word of advice about the boots, the buckles go on the outside of the foot, not between your ankles. This is a sure sign your boots are too big. Your skis will adjusted to your height, ability and approximate weight. Know your shoe size. Ski boots are sized and numbered different than a street shoe or work boot.
A man's shoe size of eleven should wear a size 10 ski boot ( 28). The 2+8 = 10, a woman is a size smaller or a 27 = 9 in a man size. Hope this muddied the waters enough that you will ask for help at the shop and insist on a good fit. If this is a sport you will continue with over the years, go to a shop and try on boots. This is the critical piece of equipment. Have fun, take lessons from a pro, it will save the friendship.
