Why is it ok in western society for women to wear mens clothing and taboo when men wear womens clothing?

Why do you think Western society is like that?

Is it because society is male dominated,and looks at females and anything associated with them to be inferior?
I find this weird because not too long ago men wore clothing that would be considered "feminine" by today standards.

Is it comfort? Suggesting that all womens clothing are uncomfortable so they are forced to wear mens clothes for comfort?

Is it homophobia? A man wearing a skirt must be gay?

Is it religion? Some religions state that men should not wear womens clothing and vice verse. Again, Looking to history not that long ago what was consider acceptable macho male attire would be consider today as feminine.

It just seems that this is an unfair double standard in western society that we just keep accepting and passing on from one generation to next.

Hun, that's something I've been dealing with my entire life... When I was young I discovered the great feeling of tights and instantly fell in love with them. They feel so great and make your leggs look so hot. Over the years I've acquired quite an extensive women's wardrobe but have to wear everything in secret if I want to keep my friends and job. If it were up to me I'd wear dresses and skirts to work every day, but it's not even close to accepted. Why can't I be comfortable while at work? No, I'm forced to wear a long sleeve shirt and tie with pants and shoes even when it's 95 degrees out. Whereas the women can wear short skirts and sandals and be perfectly acceptable in the workplace. And even worse is that they don't even have to wear nylons or tights! I think it's unprofessional looking, but they complain about having to wear them. Oh No!... What a shame that would be, I would be in heaven if I could wear them every day and not be ridiculed or thought to be gay. I'm not! I just love the fun and funky women's clothing in such wonderful fabrics and colors and who can forget the wonderful shoes! there are thousands of cute and sexy shoes for women, but guys get about 2-3 pair to wear to work every day and they are boring to begin with. My compromise I've grown accustomed to, I jsut wear a pair of patterned tights and a leotard underneath my work clothes in leu of socks, underwear and t-shirt. So far nobody's ever noticed that they aren't just expensive men's dress socks. But once again, why do we need to hide this, it's such a shame...
